Social Media is at it again! Facebook has stepped up to the plate in the fight against Ebola. You may have seen this donation solicitation when you logged in this morning. Pretty cool, huh?

If you haven’t, here’s a quick run down! The little information box that you might have seen gives you the option to go right to the donations page or to learn more about where the donations are going. If you click on “Learn More”, Facebook gives you a detailed list of the three organizations that are actively combating Ebola in West Africa. They are the International Medical Corps, the American Red Cross, and Save the Children. Facebook has actually partnered with all three of them in order to raise money.eboladoantions

If, for some reason, you don’t want to donate to any of those three, Facebook even gives you the option to learn about a bunch of OTHER organizations that are working towards the same cause. Decisions, decisions! It’s cool that they’ve left it up to us to decide.

Like most other news stories, rumors and incorrect information can circulate quickly. While there’s tons of information available out there, Facebook has taken the liberty of including a whole bunch of useful links to help you better understand Ebola itself. Included are links to the CDC, the WHO, the United Nations, and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). After all, the more you know, the better!

Though the choice is there to totally opt out of all of this, we think it’s pretty cool that Facebook is using its capabilities for something positive. They’ve successfully instilled a sense of community and charity within all of us. Who needs the news when you have Facebook?
