Don't miss out this year on the holiday advertising boom! The market is booming!

Sometimes it seems to come out of nowhere: the holiday rush and everyone racing to get their shopping done for holiday events. Don't forget. It isn't just the family you need to shop for; there are co-workers and teachers and other friends! And it's not just the presents you need to worry about; there are the parties and dinners with food and drinks. Plus the events: New Year's Eve Plans?

The holiday season is an $850 billion dollar market in the United States – and that is JUST retail. That figure does not represent the other billions of dollars spent on dining and catering during the season.

If you are a business owner, there are a lot of good reasons to remain optimistic about the holidays. Last year, CNBC reported that the holiday market in 2018 was the best in six years:

Sales in the U.S. from Nov. 1 through Christmas Eve were up 5.1 percent to more than $850 billion, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which monitors spending both in stores and online via all forms of payment. Mastercard also said online sales during that time frame were up 19.1 percent from a year ago, in line with earlier reports that showed robust growth in e-commerce this holiday season.
Online paid advertising is responsible for a large portion of this growth. And department stores were struggling last holiday season while online retail was booming. According to CNBC:

Meanwhile, big-box retailers like Walmart and Target have invested in their websites — in addition to what they’re doing in stores — to try to grab more sales online, but the majority of purchases are still happening on Amazon. The e-commerce giant was taking a whopping 81 percent of internet sales against other big-box retailers from Dec. 1 to Dec. 19, according to Edison Trends, a firm that tracks the market share of online retailers. Amazon then said Wednesday that it sold a record number of items this holiday season, though it didn’t disclose any revenue figures.
Shopify reports similar consistent growth over the years as the chart below shows:
